Induction Bending
Curves change how a space feels, softening edges, guiding movement and adding a little drama where you need it most. Think architectural façades and canopies, sweeping stair cores, or even public art installations and pavilions.
Induction bending is the clean, precise way to realise those forms in steel: smooth geometry, dependable repeatability and a finish that looks just as good up close as it does across the plaza.
What Is Induction Bending?
In simple terms, induction bending uses a copper coil to heat a narrow band of the steel as it moves forward. A fixed arm then forms the bend at the exact radius you need. Because only a small zone is heated, the surrounding material supports the shape.
The pay-off? Tight radii with minimal distortion, consistent results and, in many cases, a single-pass operation that keeps things efficient. It’s a tidy, predictable way to get elegant curves that fabricate and install smoothly.
What makes Induction bending unique at Angle Ring?
Purpose-built machines, in-house.
Our induction bending machines are designed and built by our own team, so we control the whole process – tooling, temperatures, parameters. That means repeatable radii, low ovality and clean sightlines on exposed steel.
Options that fit your design.
Whether you’re after a single sweeping arc, a multi-radius sequence, an elliptical path or even 3D/compound curves, we’ll help you choose the best route. We bend a wide range of profiles – UB/UC, PFC, tubes & pipes, RHS/SHS, and elliptical/semi-elliptical sections, and we’re comfortable with both delicate architectural details and large, heavy sections.
Practical advice from day one.
Because we also offer cold section rolling, we’ll be honest about when induction is the right answer, and when a cold-rolled or hybrid approach will balance finish, cost and lead time better, keeping the details simple and looking exactly as you drew them.
What sectors is induction bending suitable for?
Induction bending shines wherever geometry and finish matter most:
- Architecture & Construction – façades, canopies, stair cores and feature steel that act as the project’s signature
- Public Realm & Art – installations, pavilions and wayfinding elements with sculptural curves
- Civils & Infrastructure – bridges, tunnels and transport hubs needing consistent geometry across repeated pieces
- Energy & Offshore – large-diameter and heavy-wall tubulars where accuracy and reliability are non-negotiable
- Industrial & Manufacturing – process lines and handling systems that benefit from fast, accurate fit-up
- Defence & Specialist – robust sections with tight tolerances and a clean finished look
Unsure if Induction bending is right for your requirements?
Send us your section size, grade, target radius and any ovality/tolerance limits. We’ll recommend induction, cold rolling, or a hybrid route so your curves read exactly as designed, from the first sketch to the final bolt-up.
