ENERGY

Founded back in 1951, The Angle Ring Company has established itself as Europe’s market leader in pipe and plate bending, having pioneered new methods of bending and curving metals and alloys. Angle Ring now offers the largest steel bending range in the UK from a single site in Tipton in the West Midlands.

STRUCTURAL / GENERAL

Founded back in 1951, The Angle Ring Company has established itself as Europe’s market leader in the bending of steel sections plate and tube, having pioneered new methods of bending and curving metals and alloys. Angle Ring now offers the largest steel bending range in the UK from a single site in Tipton in the West Midlands.

The Angle Ring range comprises section bending, press braking, plate rolling, heavy plate forming, tube manipulation, pipe forming and spiral / three-dimensional bending. And no job is too big or too small for Angle Ring, from the mandrel bending of small sections, pipe and tube to the cold rolling, hot bending or pressing of the largest beams, the heaviest columns and the longest plate available.

TRANSFORMING THE URBAN LANDSCAPE

If you’ve ever wondered why our urban landscape has changed in recent years from the brutalist boxes of the Sixties and Seventies to the gentler, organic curves of today, wonder no more.

Because Angle Ring's in-house designed steel bending, steel forming and cambering machines enabled the company to pioneer the bending of structural sections on the major axis and the hot bending of structural sections for the very first time producing smooth accurate bends for architectural steelwork while maintaining section geometry.

It's an amazing thought but without Angle Ring there simply would be no curved roof on the new Waterloo International Station or the celebrated new Wembley 'arch'.

UNDER ONE ROOF AND UNDER CONTROL

One of Angle Ring's key competitive advantages is that everything is done in-house at the company's single site in Tipton.

Angle Ring manufactures its own bending machines and even has its own in-house maintenance department for bespoke tooling.

While confining all its operations to a single site ensures quick turnaround, optimum quality control and cost effectiveness for Angle Ring's customers.

A SERIOUS LEARNING CURVE

Angle Ring is about more than just machines, though. Because Angle Ring also recognizes that there are areas in which there's simply no substitute for human skill. That's why the company is committed to a five-year investment in training to bring trainees up to even the most basic operator level.

BENDING EVERY WHICH WAY. THE LARGEST RANGE IN THE UK

Angle Ring has been offering steel bending and curving services using cold rolling and bending techniques for over 50 years, primarily using machines designed and built in-house. Today, Angle Ring remains the market leader for curved steel, cold rolled sections, bar, tube and plate with literally dozens of machines being operated often around the clock, working quickly and economically, whether a customer's requirement is for a single tube bend or a large production run of curved steel.

Angle Ring's induction bending machinery is also designed and built in-house, primarily to serve the oil, gas, process engineering and structural markets.

The company offers a comprehensive press braking range from thin, short lengths for stair treads to long, heavy plates. Plate can be pressed in multiple positions creating an endless variety of complex shapes produced in a wide range of material grades including exotic stainless steels.

Either using a customer's free issue material or complete supply, Angle Ring can offer plate rolling or forming in a wide range of carbon and stainless steels.

The acquisition of large pipe forming equipment and heavy plate bending machinery together with key personnel from Bentham International and T Morley & Co has enabled Angle Ring to offer the specialist forming of stainless steels, duplex, super-duplex, nickel alloy, carbon steels, aluminium and titanium pipes with a single longitudinal weld seam in sizes  up to 200mm thick and in lengths of up to 10000 mm.

Meanwhile Angle Ring's specialist capabilities in three-dimensional bending in tube, sections, plate and solid bar, are recognized as second to none anywhere in the world.

FIRST BENDING STEEL, NOW BENDYWOOD

An exciting new, but entirely logical, departure for Angle Ring, as the undisputed experts in curved geometry, is its Bendywood range of pliable hardwood handrails.

Bendywood is a pliable natural wood, available in beech, oak, maple and ash, which can be supplied in straight lengths for a customer to bend to his own specifications or curved to a profile, be it a simple radius, ellipse, parabola or even three-dimensional bends for spiral stairs.

LANDMARKS IN ITS HISTORY

It's fair to say that Angle Ring's pioneering work in steel bending has been responsible for transforming the look of our towns and cities.

And there have been some very significant landmarks for the company along the way. Quite literally.

The 170-metre Spinnaker Tower at the entrance to Portsmouth harbour, for example, has, at its heart, a massive steel framework produced by Angle Ring.

Angle Ring was commissioned to form and bend steel sections to be used in the arch and the new footbridge at the new Wembley Stadium.

The £70 million new curvilinear Gateshead Music Centre, designed by Foster and Partners, one of the most dramatic and ambitious architectural projects ever conceived in the North East, has a soaring 38-metre roof (at its highest point) whose curved steel frame and support portals were created using Angle Ring's specialized forming techniques.

While the steel framework produced for the curved upper section of the stunning new 2000-tonne passenger bridge at Gatwick Airport represents yet another notable landmark for the company.

And yet, as Angle Ring Marketing Manager Paul Middleton points out: 'At Angle Ring we get just as excited about forming and bending the steel frame for a new chair design as we do the frame for a landmark bridge or a concert hall. We like to think our forte is innovation and problem solving, whether the challenge is large or small'.
